A Holly Golightly Apartment

I have been living in my new apartment for about one week.  This morning I opened my windows but for some reason I could not close them back to the way they were.  They are closed enough to block outdoor sound but still are not right.   Hope no one climbs in upon my fire escape.

I currently don't have a couch because I am using my futon as my "full" size bed.  Holly's cut-bathtub couch would be better than no couch.  How did the crew think of that idea?  Truman Capote failed to mention a cut out tub in his novel.
I do have an IKEA chair, one of those lightweight ones that are wooden with the removable seat cushion.  At my desk, which is a used dinning room table, I am sitting in my grandpa's old desk chair.  It is really well made and comfortable.  All wood with armrests and a curved back all around.  Heavy to move, though.
One of my English professors had said that if it weren't for Ramen Noodles, he'd never have made it through grad school.  Today I had chicken flavor Ramen Noodles for lunch.  I make it not like a soup but rather as a thick bunch of noodles.  I realize I consume about 800 millagrams of sodium in one bowl, but it is so good.  I also had a sandwich:  honey ham and lettuce with mayo on white bread.  No chips, because the soup fulfilled that salty craving.
My mailbox is similar to Holly Golightly's too.  But I don't keep a mirror or perfume stashed inside.

Queen of the Sun

I just watched a documentary titled Queen of the Sun about how bees are being eliminated from the earth and how beekeepers and other informed citizens are trying to reverse this cycle caused by man's intervention.

Baked Steak

As a college graduation gift, my mom, sister and grandma placed an assortment of family recipes into a binder, where I can see a photo from when I was three, eating stem cherries at the dining room table, placed beside a recipe for blueberry muffins.  Last Sunday evening my mom and I prepared one of the binder recipes, which turned out not to be from family but from  Women's Day magazine.  I chopped the vegetables while mom made the sauce for our steak dinner.  One of the best meals I've had all semester.  All was complimented by a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon by Avalon from their winery in the Napa Valley, vintage 2008.
